Tattoo Aftercare – Your Step-by-Step Healing Guide

Day 1–7: The Initial Healing Phase
Immediately after getting your tattoo:
• Your tattoo will be covered with a protective film:
• Plastic wrap should be removed after a few hours.
• Second Skin (e.g., Suprasorb) can stay on for 3–5 days – you can shower with it. If fluid collects under the film or it starts to peel off, carefully remove it.
• After removing the film, gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and, if necessary, a pH-neutral, fragrance-free soap.
• Pat dry with a clean disposable towel or paper towel.

Care & protection in the first few days:
• Wash the tattoo once or twice a day with lukewarm water and, if necessary, mild soap.
• From day 3 onwards, you may apply tattoo aftercare cream (recommended: Pegasus) if needed – but only if the skin feels very dry or itchy. Apply a thin layer to avoid over-moisturizing the tattoo.
• Avoid tight clothing over the tattoo to prevent friction.

STRICTLY PROHIBITED during this time:
• Sun exposure, tanning beds, saunas, and swimming are absolutely off-limits!
• Do not scratch or rub – itching is normal, but resist the urge.
• No sports or heavy sweating to prevent irritation.

Week 1–2: The Critical Healing Phase
Continue protecting your tattoo:
• The tattoo may start to flake slightly – this is normal! Do not pick at the peeling skin or scabs.
• Continue using aftercare cream only as needed.
• Avoid soaking the tattoo directly while showering.
Still PROHIBITED:
• Sun exposure, tanning beds, saunas, swimming – for at least 2 weeks!
• Wearing tight or rubbing clothing.
• Excessive stretching of the tattooed area due to intense movement or exercise.

Week 3–6: Stabilization & Long-Term Protection
Your tattoo begins to settle:
• The skin continues to regenerate, and the lines may fade slightly or change in appearance.
• If dry skin or slight flaking occurs, continue using moisturizer as needed.
• Sun protection is now essential! Always apply SPF 50 if the tattoo is exposed to UV rays.
Still avoid:
• Intense sun exposure, as the skin is still sensitive.
• If needed, now is the time to discuss a touch-up with your tattoo artist.
When should you contact your tattoo artist or a doctor?
• Persistent redness, swelling, or excessive pain after several days.
• Yellow or green discharge (a sign of infection).
• An itchy rash or unusual skin reactions.
With proper aftercare, your tattoo will stay beautiful with crisp lines for a long time! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out anytime.
